HEFT-10

HEFT is one of the series of airborne projects that are conducted by NCAR’s Earth Observatory Laboratory-Research Aviation Facility. It is designed to allow instruments to be developed for integration and testing on the GV research aircraft. For HEFT-10 we developed a motion stabilized telescope system housed in a wing mounted pylon. With additional NSF funding we were able to integrate a deployment to Hawaii and conduct a science flight over the remote ocean. During this flight we were able to measure IO and glyoxal in the tropical free troposphere for the first time.

IO measured over the tropical pacific.
A) Spectral proof of IO detected at different altitudes
B) Significant observations on the free troposphere
